Story Patch-$2.99 (iPad)
This is a great app for beginning and reluctant writers. Users start out answering questions about their ideas, and a story is begun for the students. Then, students can add additional text and illustrations from the app itself (over 800 illustrations). This app can be published via PDF to iBooks so the class can all have access to each others books. This is a great way to students to become "published writers!"
I Can Write 2-FREE (iPad)
This app allows primary students to learn the basics of writing a sentence by interacting with the app to actually build a story while writing the sentence.

This is the first Sandra Boynton book that has been made into a mobile app! This popular book (over 5 million sold) has been created in app version to allow for interactivity by readers. This is a "must check out" app!
Monkey and Croc-$1.99
This is a story about friendship between a monkey and a crocodile. This book is ideal for emergent readers and contains beginning vocabulary and sight words. There is a "read to me" option that allows students to have the words highlighted as the book is read aloud.
Reading A-Z Books (FREE-$6.99)
Students at HCS love reading A-Z books, which teachers use for their assessments of student progress as well. Teachers can locate any level, from A-P. Individual books and entire libraries are available for each level, as well as numerous seasonal libraries. These books continue our goal to increase comprehension and fluency! To find these books, search "LAZ" in the iTunes store.

Numerous Dr. Seuss books are available in the app store. These classic books allow users to have the book read to them, can read the book on their own, or can interact with the text as they read. It's a great series for some amazing books! Book titles include Green Eggs and Ham, Dr. Seuss's ABCs, The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish, and many more!

There has been a huge demand for apps that are centered around rich literature. This award winning app takes the classic Tale of Peter Rabbit and makes it interactive. Students can interact with something on each page including making the owl hoot, Peter's sisters giggle, and even make the blackberries burst!

Great book for primary students where users can have the book read or read themselves. The book is interactive and allows students to interact with characters in the text and in games based on the book.

This is a great, basic alphabet letter and word app for primary students. Each letter has a sound and image that correlates with the letter.

This is a great app that helps students learn basic sight words.
iWrite Words-$2.99
This is a favorite app here at HCS! Students can use their finger to practice forming letters correctly and practice handwriting at the same time. This app gives individual letters and simple words, in upper and in lowercase, for the child to trace with a finger. If the tracing is more or less accurate, the letter moves and a picture appears. Direction of letter formation, and visual cues, are well done.
First Words Animals/First Words Deluxe-$1.99
Users work with basic sight words and can spell the words with various levels of difficulty, sounds, and pictures.
Chicktionary-$1.99
Interactive way for students to work with words. Users are given a variety of letters based on level chosen and must create as many words as they can from letters given. Points are awarded based on the length of words and number of words created.
